  1. Can I donate to the school?

    Bowdon Elementary School requirests and is grateful for parent donations. We feel that your donations will benefit your child's education. However, your child's participation in the instructional program is in no way conditional upon the degree or lack of compliance to this request.

  2. What if my child gets sick at school?

    When a student becomes sick enough to call his/her parents, he/she may do so, but must then return to his/her room and remain until the parent comes to pick him/her up.

    If a student leaves before the end of a school day for any reason, parents must sign the child out in the office.

    A student must leave school with a parent or some other adult who has been desinated by the parent on the registration card or by written/phone notification by the parent.

    It is the parents responsibility to keep the emergency card current. At least one local, working phone number in addition to the parent/guardian must be listed to insure the safety of your child.

  3. What if my child is on medication?

    • A Request for Administration of Medication form must be completed and returned to the school office staff for any medicine (whether over-the-counter or prescription) given during the day. A doctor's signature is must be on the form if medication must be administered for more than a 30 days.
    • Medicine will only be given if it is delivered to the office in the original bottle, marked with the students name, dosage, name of medication, time to be given, physician, pharmacy, and purchase date.
    • All medicine must be delivered to the office by the parent or guardian. Students cannot transport medication to and from school.
    • Child's medication must be picked up the last day of school. We do not keep medicine over summer break. All medicines left at the end of post planning will be disposed of.
    • Short-term prescription medications (less than 30 days) - follow all the above procedures. Parents are to send one (1) day dosage each day in a prescription bottle that is properly labeled by the pharmacy. (The pharmacist will provide a duplicate bottle).

  4. How can my child be checked out of school early?

    All dismissals of students are done through the main office. Each child must be signed out by his/her parent/guardian unless written or verbal permission is given to the office staff. Leaving school without following proper checkout procedures is a serious offense, and any pupil guilty of this is subject to school discipline.

    Please do not pickup your child before 2:45 p.m. And early checkout will count as a tardy!

  5. How should my child`s meals be paid for?

    Application for free and reduced price meals will be sent home the first week of school. Lunch money will be collected on Monday or as the child goes through the line. You may send money for the week or the month or online. Any paid meals missed due to absences will be credited to your child.

    1. Put lunch or breakfast money for the day, week or month in an envelope.
    2. Write the child's name, student number, and teacher's name on the envelope and the words "Lunch Money".
    3. If paying by check, make check payable to Bowdon Elementary School and write child's name and student number on the bottom of the check. Please write a separate check for breakfast and lunch for each child.

  6. Can I send my child`s lunch to school?

    Medical information is needed if your child is allergic to certain foods or dairy products. A doctors note is required yearly if a student is not to drink milk. Do not send carbonated, non-nutritional sodas for your child's lunch.

  7. What if my child is tardy or absent?

    Excuses for student absences must be in writing, signed by a parent/guardian and presented to the teacher on the day of the student's return to school. Excused absences will be granted and full credit for make up work will be given when absences result from sickness of student, serious illness of a member of the immediate family, death of a member of the immediate family or religious holidays.

    4 tardies or absences -Notice sent to parent/guardian by child
    8 tardies/ or absences -Letter sent to parent/guardian by mail
    13 tardies or absences -Referral to School Social Worker, School Nurse, or Counselor


    A child leaving school before 11:30 a.m. is counted absent for the entire day. Please do not pick your child up before 2:45 p.m. An early checkout will be counted as a tardy.

  8. What if my child has an unexcused absence?

    6 absences -Discipline referral for violation or Compulsory Attendance Law
    8 absences -Referal to school social worker and SST

    10 absences -Referral to Carroll County Truancy Team with the possibility of court action
    15 total absences excused or unexcused are grounds for retention.

  9. What if my child has an unexcused tardy?

  10. Are parties allowed for my child`s class?

    All grade levels will be permitted to have two major parties of their choice during the year. Grade mothers may be selected at the first of the year to assist the teacher with these two parties. Teachers may request refreshments to be sent for additional occasions. All egg hunts will be held by grade level on school or public property. All room mothers for each grade should try to coordinate the parties together with each other and/or the teachers so that all children of that grade level may have similar parties.

    Students are not allowed to have birthday parties at school.

  11. Can anyone attend my child`s field trip?

    Students will be allowed to participate in curriculum related field trips which are designed to enhance their educational experiences. A permission note will be sent home with information concerning each trip. The signed permission note must be returned in order for your child to participate.

    Students participating in a school sponsored field trip must ride to and from the destination on school transportation. Exceptions to this policy can be made only with the permission of the principal at least three days before the trip. Students arriving at the destination by other means are not the responsibility of school. Field trip participants will each a school lunch.

    No siblings of participants of any age may participate in a field trip. All chaperones must be over 21. Exceptions to this policy can be made only with the permission of the principal.

    Donations for field trips may be requested in order to pay admission and travel expenses. No student will be denied the opportunity to participate in a school sponsored field trip because of inability to pay. However, if funds designated for the trip are inadequate, the trip may be cancelled. Funds will then be reimbursed to parents.

    The principal has the authority to exclude any student from participation on any field trip.

  12. How can I ensure my child doesn`t get head lice?

    The school will have periodic screenings for head lice. In the event that we believe your child has head lice, we will contact you and ask you to remove your child from school. Before your child can be re-admitted to school he/she must be free from nits and lice. You must provide proof of treatment. Parents should return with the student after treatment.
